Croatia Turns Down Trump's Board of Peace Invitation

(MENAFN) Croatia announced Wednesday it will not participate in U.S. President Donald Trump's newly established Board of Peace, delivering a diplomatic rebuff to the White House initiative.

"I must say that the government's position is that Croatia would not join the Board of Peace at this time for a number of reasons," said Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic, declining to provide further details.

Officials reached the decision Tuesday, with Plenkovic informing Croatian President Zoran Milanovic via telephone before releasing the public statement.

Hours earlier Wednesday, Milanovic criticized the arrangement during remarks at the University of Zagreb, describing the initiative as a troubling departure from established international protocols.

"This is a serious precedent because, beyond the United Nations, the mandate to resolve humanitarian crises is being transferred to a system and body outside the United Nations," said Milanovic.

President Trump officially unveiled the Board of Peace on Jan. 22 through a charter-signing ceremony at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. Multiple prominent global powers and longstanding American allies have refused participation in the organization.

The rejection marks another setback for Trump's diplomatic venture, which has struggled to attract key international partners despite the high-profile launch at the influential economic summit.
